Indians end regular season on winning note

In a season of learning to play at the varsity level, the Hillsboro Indians have had their share of highs and lows, but Friday night was one of the good nights, as they ended their regular season with a 55-45 victory over the East Clinton Astros.
The South Central Ohio League win puts the Tribe at 9-13 overall after a 22-game regular season, with a league record of 4-10.
In their first meeting at HHS, the Astros defeated the Indians, 58-56 on Friday, Jan. 11.
At EC, the Indians led after the first by a 14-10 score and at the half with a lead of eight points as they outscored the host Astros, 13-9 in the second frame.
In the third, EC outscored the visiting Indians by three points at 19-16, and in the fourth, the Indians led, 12-7.

Leading HHS in scoring were senior Jarrod Hart and junior Jordan Captain, with each player scoring a game-high 19 points.
Also scoring for HHS was Reese Leibreich, a senior, with seven points. Trey Moberly and Zach Young each scored four points, and Alex Branscome totaled two points in the win.
HHS was 15-of-21 from the free-throw line with Hart going 8-of-10 and Captain finishing 5-of-7. Leibreich was 2-of-2.
Hart and Leibreich each made a 3-pointer in the win, while the Indians combined for 17 two-point buckets with Captain converting seven of the baskets.
Hayden Knisley led the Astros with 14 points, followed by Dalton Floyd and Jerrett Huff with 10 points each.
EC went 13-of-18 from the free-throw line with two 3-pointers and 12 two-point baskets.
HHS will play in the postseason starting on Tuesday, Feb. 19 as they will be a No. 7 seed and take on No. 10 seed Jackson in their Division II sectional game at 8 p.m. at Southeastern High School.
