Indians defeat Falcons at HHS

After a sluggish opening eight minutes where the Hillsboro Indians trailed, they shot down the Clinton-Massie Falcons for the remaining three quarters, defeating their South Central Ohio League rival 66-32 Tuesday night at Hillsboro High School.
The Indians trailed 13-12 at the start of the opening quarter, but they showed their defensive prowess in the second as they held the Falcons to zero points, while knocking down 16 to take a 28-13 advantage after 16 minutes ticked off the clock.
Hillsboro's Caleb Wilson gave the Tribe the lead at 14-13, and then it was all HHS for the remainder of the game.
Wilson's points were followed by a 3-pointer from Aric Carroll and a put back bucket from Airic Steagall. Carroll led HHS with 12 points.
Also contributing to the second quarter scoring were: Colt Coates, Emanuel Turner and Will McKenna.
HHS extended their lead to 20 points early in the third with Coates nailing a 3-ball, followed with inside points by Dylan Barreras.
The Falcons stooped the offensive outburst by scoring at the 5:23 mark of the third.
HHS continued to control the third frame with Wilson, Turner, Dawson Barreras and Steagall finishing the quarter's scoring. Steagall topped off the third with a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Hillsboro led 50-23 as the final quarter came, and more players joined in on the scoring, as every varsity member played in the game.
Dow Kiefer scored first for the Tribe in the fourth, followed shortly thereafter by Coates, Carroll, McKenna and Dawson Barreras scoring seven straight points. Kiefer scored HHS's final points.
Nick Dishon and DJ Jewett sank 3-point shots in the final minutes for the Falcons.
Turner, Coates and Dylan Barreras each scored nine points.
Steagall, McKenna and Wilson each netted eight points.
In the opening quarter, Nick Stivers put CM ahead first, then the Falcons gained a 4-1 lead with a bucket by Taylor Luckett.
Carroll sank his first 3-pointer of the game with 4:06 left in the first to put HHS in the lead at 6-4. On the ensuing possession Stivers answered with his own 3-pointer to put the Falcons back in the lead.
Dylan Barreras then sank two jumpers with 2:56 left in the quarter.
Massie ended the first with back-to-back buckets from Brad Burgess.
Luckett led Massie with a game-high 13 points.
The win lifts HHS to 8-7 overall, 4-4 in the SCOL.
The Indians will travel to take on the Washington Blue Lions Saturday night at Washington Senior High School.
In JV play, HHS defeated CM 50-40. Chase Gilliland led HHS with 11 points.
In the freshman game CM defeated HHS 51-26. Leibrich led the Indians with 11 points.
