Indians 8th, McClain 9th at West Jefferson Invitational

The Hillsboro and McClain varsity wrestling teams were back in action on Friday and Saturday in the West Jefferson Invitational Tournament.
The invitational tournament is a two-day, 17-team pool to bracket tournament that places the top six wrestlers in each weight class. The top six placers each received a plaque for their accomplishment.
As a team, McClain placed right in the middle of the pack in ninth place and Hillsboro finished in eighth place.
[[In-content Ad]]HHS had five wrestlers place in the Top 8 as they had just eight wrestlers take part in the event. (More HHS results will be added once posted to Baums page).
Leading the way for MHS was Dylan Trefz (285 pounds), who went 8-1 for the tournament, with his only loss coming in the finals against his opponent from Piqua. Trefz received the runner-up award.
By winning these eight matches, Trefz also took over the team lead in victories, as he now stands at 17-4 on the season.
In addition, he also went over the 50-win mark for his career, as he now has a 54-27 career overall record.
Lucas Unger (195) placed third with his 7-2 record, and Ethan Paul (160) placed fourth with a 4-3 mark.
Jake Badgley (145) broke even on the tournament with a 3-3 mark. Unfortunately, this wasn't good in enough in his weight class to place.
Jason Flowers (138) went 3-4 on the weekend, and Connor Moriarty (113) finished 3-5 ,which was good enough for sixth place in his weight class.
Kylee Stroud (106) ended the event at 2-6, and Jarrett Milnes (220) was 2-7. Kalab Smith (126) was 1-6, and Dillon Faulconer (152) was 0-6.
The team has an even win-loss record at 20-20 this year in tournament placement.
The host team West Jefferson won the tournament, and Pataskala Watkins Memorial were the runners-up.
The top ten teams received recognition. Other schools placing in the top 10 were: 3, Piqua; 4, Belmont Union Local; 5, Pemberville Eastwood; 6, Madison-Plains; 7, Summit Station Licking Heights; and 10, Galloway Westland.
South Central Ohio League member East Clinton was also at the tournament.
Up next for the MHS varsity and JV teams is a tri-match at Cincinnati Princeton, with Cincinnati Glen Este being the third team. These two Division I teams will have several state-ranked wrestlers.
