Hillsboro wrestles at Franklin Invitational

The Hillsboro Indians wrestling team wrestled at the Franklin Invitational at Franklin High School this past weekend, placing ninth overall.

The Saturday event saw Ryan Kelley place first over in his weight class of 126 pounds. Kelley defeated Adam Wilhelm (Carroll) by a score of 7-6 in the championship match.

Kelley also defeated Brenden Williams (Ross) via pin fall (2:18), Bryan Holden (Campbell Co.) by a major decision (16-5) and Tyler Thomas via pin fall at 1:27.

Also for the Indians, Cody Whaley (138) and Curran Butler (160) each placed fourth.

Jed Asmus (170) and Toby Warrington (120) each placed fifth, while Austin Miller (182) was sixth and Lane Hester (145) placed in seventh.

"The boys wrestled hard, and I was proud of them," HHS head coach Nate Horne said. "For some, it was their first varsity meet.  

"Ryan Kelley had a good tournament and held on to win in the finals."

HHS will host a meet on Thursday, Dec. 12 as Wilmington and New Richmond will visit the home of the Indians, starting at 6 p.m.
