Hillsboro unable to hold on for victory over Washington

WASHINGTON C.H. — After three innings, the Hillsboro Indians held a 3-1 lead on the road against Frontier Athletic Conference foe Washington. That wasn’t the case in the final four innings, as Washington battled back to take a one-run advantage, only to see the Indians score four runs in the top of the sixth.
Those four runs ended up not being enough, as the home team Blue Lions scored four runs of their own in the bottom half of the sixth inning to eventually defeat the Indians, 8-7 on Tuesday night in Washington C.H.
Though the Blue Lions led 1-0 after the first inning following a home run by Titus Lotz, it was Hillsboro who put runs on the board in the top of the second, as a three-run inning propelled them to a 3-1 advantage.
The top of the second for the Indians started off with Corbin Willey being hit by a pitch, followed by a six-pitch walk forced by Spencer Wyckoff. Next was a single by Bryce Parsons to centerfield, scoring both Willey and Wyckoff. Parsons scored the third run of the second inning off a single past the shortstop by Ethan Grooms for the 3-1 lead.
Washington added two runs in the bottom of the fourth, and they had one run score in the bottom of the fifth for a 4-3 lead.
Hillsboro wasn’t finished, as the offense scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning, starting with Willey being hit by a pitch, and he went to third base off a single to right field off the bat of Wyckoff. Willey eventually scored off a passed ball, and Parsons drew an eight-pitch walk.
After two consecutive strikeouts, Will Hart drew a walk for the Indians to load the bases. Korbin Adams hit a double to centerfield, clearing the bases for three RBI and a 7-4 Indians lead.
HHS was unable to gain three outs to secure the win, as the Blue Lions defended their home field by having their own four-run sixth inning to gain the 8-7 lead over HHS.
The Blue Lions defense held the Indians scoreless in the top of the seventh to seal the win, as Hillsboro left two runners stranded on the bases.
Hillsboro finished with eight hits in the loss, with Brayden Cochran and Wyckoff each having two hits. Cochran was 2-for-4, while Wyckoff went 2-for-3 with two runs, a double and one walk.
Adams finished 1-for-4 with three RBI and a double, and teammate Willey went 1-for-2 with two runs. Parsons finished 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and two walks. Ethan Grooms was 1-for-4 with one RBI. Canaan Griffith scored one run.
Steals for the Indians were by Cochran, Wyckoff, Parsons and Griffith.
HHS used three pitchers in the loss, with Willey being charged with the loss on the mound. He finished with 1.1 innings pitched, where he allowed four runs (two earned) on two hits and five walks. He struck out one batter.
Cochran was the starting pitcher for HHS, as he pitched four innings. He allowed four earned runs on four hits and three walks, throwing 79 total pitches. Cochran also struck out four batters.
Quintin Captain pitched 0.2 innings of relief where he allowed no runs or hits, while striking out one batter.
The loss drops the Indians to 1-6 overall this season and 1-1 in the FAC.
