Hillsboro unable to fend off visiting Ironladies

HILLSBORO – Saturday night saw a roller coaster Frontier Athletic Conference game between the host Hillsboro Lady Indians and Jackson Ironladies. The two teams battled strong, but it was JHS who pulled away and earned the win, defeating Hillsboro, 60-55.
At one point in the first quarter, it was Jackson leading 13-0 against HHS, but HHS eventually made the scoreboard with the scoring run being snapped by Brynn Bledsoe with 3:31 on the clock. HHS eventually trailed 17-6 at the end of the first frame, scoring the final four points of the frame, all scored by Peighton Bledsoe.
HHS began the second frame with a 12-0 run of their own, taking a lead of 18-17 with 5:12 on the clock, with points from Gracie Dean, Rylie Scott and Mya Bell.
Jackson regained the lead, but HHS rallied back with baskets from Dean, Peighton Bledsoe and Brynn Bledsoe for a 24-24 tied score with 3:17 left in the second quarter.
From there, Jackson outscored the Lady Indians, 6-4 for a halftime lead over HHS of 30-28.
Jackson led 44-36 at the end of three frames, outscoring HHS, 14-8 in the third. In the fourth quarter, HHS scored 19 points, while Jackson collected 16 points, which was just enough to hold on for a five-point win over Hillsboro.
In the third frame for HHS, Dean scored four points (including a 3-pointer), while Blake Herdman made a two-point basket, and Maddie Taylor sank a two-point basket as well.
The fourth quarter for Hillsboro saw Dean score six points, Bell tally five points, Brynn Bledsoe tack on four points and Herdman score five points, as she made a 3-pointer.
Dean led HHS in scoring with 21 points, and Brynn Bledsoe followed with 10 points. The rest of the HHS final scoring included Herdman (seven), Peighton Bledsoe (six), Bell (five), Scott (four) and Taylor (two).
Kenzie David led JHS with 17 points, followed by Katelyn Webb with 14 points, Mattie Walburn with 13 points, TJ Carpenter with 12 points and Sydney Hughes with four points.
HHS was 11-of-23 from the free-throw line, while Jackson finished 22-of-31.
The loss moves HHS to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the FAC.
