Hillsboro softball wins 3 straight games; Roberts throws no-hitter

The Hillsboro Lady Indians have won their past three games with Frontier Athletic Conference victories over Miami Trace, Chillicothe and Jackson.
On Wednesday, April 20, the Lady Indians defeated the visiting Miami Trace Lady Panthers by a 12-1 score.
The win saw Lady Indians pitcher Kayla Roberts toss a no-hitter with six innings in the circle, where she allowed one unearned run on with four walks and 11 strikeouts. Roberts threw a total of 116 pitches.
Offensively, Hillsboro scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, then scored four more runs in the bottom of the second inning. HHS added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Lady Indians totaled 15 hits and had two errors. Miami Trace had two errors.
At the plate, Halle Reveal was 4-for-4 with two runs to lead the Lady Indians. Camryn Spruell was 2-for-4 (two runs, one RBI), and teammate Eowyn Brown was 2-for-4 with two runs, and one RBI. KaleyJo Myers finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and one walk, while Hannah Burton finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Having one hit each were Roberts (three runs, one RBI), Kinsey Gilliland (two runs, three RBI, one walk) and Mylea Fridley (one run, one walk).
Spurell, Burton (two) and Gilliland all had doubles. Reveal, Roberts (two), Spruell (two) and Brown each had steals.
Next came a win on Tuesday, April 26 when Hillsboro defeated the Chillicothe Cavaliers in Hillsboro by a 9-2 score.
Hillsboro led 3-2 after the first inning, followed by HHS scoring one run in the bottom of the second, two runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth and two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Lady Indians totaled 10 hits and one error, while Chillicothe was held to just three hits.
Reveal finished 3-for-4 with two runs, while other multi-hit games included Brown at 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, and Burton was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Roberts had one hit, two runs, and two RBI, while teammate Spruell finished with a hit, RBI and a walk. Myers ended the game with one hit, one run, two RBI and a walk.
Spruell hit a triple in the win, while Roberts hit a home run. Reveal and Gilliland each had a steal.
Spruell was also the winning pitcher as she threw 124 pitches in the win. Spruell threw a complete game and in seven innings she allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks, all while collecting 16 strikeouts.
On Wednesday, April 27 Hillsboro went on the road to game a FAC win, defeating the Jackson Ironladies by a 11-1 score in six innings. In the road win, HHS collected 13 hits and one error, while Jackson had two hits and three errors.
HHS led by a 2-0 score after one inning, followed by one run in the second and third innings. After Jackson added one run in the bottom of the third, Hillsboro responded with three runs in the fourth inning, two runs in the top of the fifth, and capped off their scoring with two runs in the top of the sixth.
Emma Taylor led HHS with a 3-for-3 night at the plate, as she added three runs and one RBI. Roberts was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. Gilliland finished with a 2-for-4 game with one run and one RBI. Myers was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
With one hit apiece were Reveal (one run), Spruell (two runs), Brown and Isabelle Brunck (one run, two RBI).
Roberts hit two home runs in the win, while Brunck also hit a home run. Brunck, Morgan Garman (two) and Gilliland each had steals.
