Hillsboro Indians win season opener over Westfall

The Hillsboro Indians began their 2013-14 season by keeping their opponent scoreless, and it all eventually led to a 44-31 win Friday afternoon against the Westfall Mustangs at the 25th annual Zane Trace Tip-Off Classic.
HHS outscored WHS, 12-0 in the first quarter and led 20-13 at halftime.
In the third, WHS won the quarter at 13-11, but the Indians still led the game by a 31-26 advantage. In the final quarter, the HHS defense went back to their their old tricks by keeping the Mustangs to a single-digit scoring quarter, outscoring WHS, 13-5.
The Indians (1-0) were led in scoring by Zach Young with 14 points, as he was 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. He also sank a 3-pointer in the third frame.
He was followed by Jordan Captain and Latrell Haithcock with nine points each, as Haithcock was also 5-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Alex Van Zant added five points (including a 3-pointer in the second quarter), and Austin Bagshaw scored his three points, also off a trey, knocking down his 3-pointer in the second quarter.

Logan Lesley and Trey Moberly each added two points.
For the game, HHS was 15-of-23 from the free-throw line.
The Mustangs (0-1) were led in scoring by Brandon Wilson and Cory Wyman, each with seven points. Erik Selzeh totaled six points.
WHS converted five 3-pointers and didn't shoot a free throw the entire 32-minute game, as HHS committed just seven fouls in the game.
HHS will host Western Brown in another non-league game Tuesday, Dec. 3.
