Hillsboro Indians fall to Goshen

HILLSBORO — In a game that had some intrigue with a former Hillsboro head coach returning to face his former team, it was the Goshen Warriors defeating the host Hillsboro Indians, 60-53 Saturday night.
In the game played at HHS, former Hillsboro head coach Miles Burton returned to Hillsboro as the head coach of Goshen, as he resigned from the Hillsboro post following last season. It was his first time facing his former team, but it was HHS who led early on with a 13-12 lead at the end of the first frame.
Hillsboro’s Bryce Parsons played a game where he excelled on offense and defense, as the senior led the Indians with 26 points for the game, including six points off three baskets in the first quarter.
The Indians (1-3) also had a 3-pointer from Tate Davis in the first frame, along with two points each by Brayden Hunter and Deegan Bloomfield.
Goshen in the opening frame had seven points by Caden Zeinner, three points by Luke Ball and two points from Carter Settelmayer.
The Warriors won the second frame at 15-14 with Conner Moore scoring eight points in the frame, while Dylan Muchmore tacked on three points, and with two points each in the frame were Zeinner and Logan Haley.
Hillsboro’s second quarter consisted of two 3-pointers for six points by Bloomfield, three points each by Parsons and Davis and two points by Steven Kibler.
With the score tied at 27 when halftime arrived, the Indians came out and scored 14 points in the third frame, but Goshen answered with 18 points in the third quarter to take a 45-41 lead.
Goshen’s third frame saw them sink four 3-pointers with two treys and a two-point basket by Zeinner, two 3-pointers by Settelmayer and two points from Moore.
HHS saw Parsons score 11 points in the third quarter, and the Indians also had a 3-pointer by Bloomfield.
The Indians in the fourth scored 12 points with six points from Parsons, a 3-pointer by Bloomfield, two points from Dorian Stewart and one point by Kibler.
Goshen’s 15 points in the fourth quarter included seven points by Zemner, six points by Moore and two points from Craig McKinney.
In all, the Warriors made 10 two-point baskets, 10 3-pointers and were 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Zeinner led Goshen with 24 points, while Moore totaled 16 points. Other final totals for the Warriors included Muchmore with three points, Settlemeyer with eight points, McKinney with two points, Ball with three points and Haley with four points.
For the Indians, they totaled 14 two-point baskets, six 3-pointers and they finished 7-of-11 from the free-throw line. HHS was led in scoring by Parsons with 26 points, as his total consisted of 10 two-point buckets and he was 6-of-9 from the free-throw line.
Also for the Indians, Bloomfield totaled 14 points (including four 3-pointers), and other final scoring totals included six points by Davis, three points by Kibler and two points each from Hunter and Stewart.
