Hillsboro Indians boys bowling team earns district title, advances to state tournament

A change in division, venue and district didn’t affect the Hillsboro Indians varsity boys bowling team, as the result was the same for the second year in a row. The Indians won the Division I bowling championship, clinching a return to the OHSAA Div. I State Bowling Tournament.
The Indians earned their state berth and district title March 2 at Beaver-Vu Lanes in Beavercreek, competing with Southwest District teams in Division I. Last year, the Indians were district champions in Div. II in the Southeast District tournament, held at Shawnee Lanes in Chillicothe.
As a team, HHS won with a score of 4,357, including a regulation total of 3,151 and scoring 1,206 in the six Baker rounds. They won by 27 pins over runner-up Beavercreek.
The Indians were led by senior Zach Ison, who was an individual district runner-up with a score of 703 pins. Also finishing in the top 10 as an individual was senior Shaun Rodgers, who bowled a 660.
Sophomore Austin Bledsoe (32nd overall) scored a 607, followed closely by teammate Kayden Gall, a junior, with a 605 (33rd overall). Andrew Tomko, a sophomore, bowled a 576 for the Indians at districts (55th).
The team also includes Zach Burwinkel, Aidan Lemaster and Landen Springer, all of whom are sophomores.
The Indians will be competing in the state tournament Saturday, March 11.

Senior Brianna Callahan bowled a 558 at districts for 28th place. She was followed by junior Bell Perkins bowling a 466 for 80th place and senior Chloe Page finishing her season in 83rd place with 462 pins.
