Hillsboro drops home opener to Broncos

The Hillsboro Indians were unable to open their home slate of games with a win on Tuesday night, falling to the visiting Western Brown Broncos, 51-40.

The scoring was very low in the first quarter with the Broncos outscoring the Indians, 6-2 with the two points in the quarter for the Indians coming from senior Jordan Captain.

Captain finished with 12 points, including a 6-of-8 performance from the free-throw line. Captain scored six of his 12 points in the fourth quarter.


[[In-content Ad]]Zach Young led the Indians with 14 points, making two 3-pointers in the game and finishing 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.

As for the second quarter, the Indians were outscored 17-12, trailing 23-14 at halftime.

HHS (1-1) scored 13 points in each of the next two quarters for 26 second-half points, but the Broncos had second half quarters of 14 points each, for 28 second-half points.

Austin Bagshaw totaled six points and Alex Van Zant added three points for HHS, with Van Zant making one 3-pointer.

Logan Lesley added four points (one 3-pointer) and rounding out the scoring for the Indians was Latrell Haithcock with one point.

HHS was 12-of-21 from the free-throw line, with Western Brown finishing 17-of-27.

The Broncos' leading scorers were Fulton with 14 points and O. Bennett with 13 points, as each player made a 3-pointer. WB ended the game with four 3-pointers.

Hillsboro will play again on Tuesday, Dec. 10 when they host the Fairfield Lions in a Highland County rivalry matchup.
