High School FAC Football Pregame Notebook: Week 4

It is time for another week of Frontier Athletic Conference football, where every team in the conference has a win going into Week 4.
FAC - Week 4 (Friday, Sept. 9)
Hillsboro Indians (1-2) vs. Williamsburg Wildcats (3-0)
Chillicothe Cavaliers (2-1) at Waverly Tigers (2-1)
Jackson Ironmen (1-2) vs. Western Brown Broncos (3-0)
McClain Tigers (2-1) at East Clinton Astros (1-2)
Miami Trace Panthers (1-2) vs. Goshen Warriors (1-2)
Washington Blue Lions (2-1) at Minford Falcons (3-0)
Here are some things to know before the start of the fourth week of high school football:
- The Hillsboro Indians had their best week of football in their win over East Clinton last Friday, where the running game set the tone in the victory. This Friday is a tougher challenge, as Williamsburg is 3-0 overall going into this game with wins this season against Batavia (48-7), St. Bernard-Elmwood Place (42-14) and Mariemont (30-21). This season, Williamsburg has outscored their opponents, 120-42.
- Another thing about Williamsburg in their win against Mariemont in Week 3 is they totaled 291 yards on offense with 193 passing yards and 98 yards rushing. Another plus for Williamsburg is they had zero turnovers in the Week 3 win.
- Jackson has outscored their opponents 74-51 this season, but they have two consecutive losses against two strong teams being Ironton (29-26) and Tri-Valley (14-13) — so their two losses have been by a combined four points.
- The past two games for the McClain Tigers have allowed 36 and 40 points, with a 1-1 record in those two games against Northwest (Week 2) and Zane Trace (Week 3). The loss against Zane Trace was tough, but this Friday the Tigers take on the East Clinton Astros, who are coming off a loss to the Hillsboro Indians. Last season, the Tigers defeated ECHS, 34-14 at McClain Field.
- McClain thus far in three games in 2022 have scored 64 points, averaging 21.3 points per game, and they have allowed a total of 89 points (29.6 points per game). This should be a good game and a competitive one. The player to watch for ECHS is running back Dameon Williams, who played a good game in Week 3.
- As for MHS, they have had some solid games from a number of players in ’22, as last Friday Andrew Potts had 18 rushes for 81 yards, averaging 4.5 yards per carry last week.
- Chillicothe, in their three-point loss (17-14) to Westerville North in Week 3, passed for 186 yards (Mason Doughty was 15-of-31 for 186 yards and two touchdowns) and 68 yards rushing. In that game, CHS allowed 116 passing yards and 231 yards rushing.
- The Cavs’ Week 4 opponent — the Waverly Tigers — have scored 124 points (41.3 points per game) and 115 points allowed (38.3 points per game allowed). Also about Waverly, they are 2-1 and suffered their first loss last Friday to Unioto, 48-27, so Unioto must be a very good team to do that against the Tigers.
- One last thing about Chillicothe, they have outscored their opponents 70-60 in the first three games, as last Friday was also their first loss and their lowest scoring total through the first three games. These two teams didn’t face each other last season.
- Miami Trace lost in Week 3 against Logan Elm by a 35-10 score, as all 10 of their points came in the first quarter. Miami Trace in the loss had 119 passing yards and 116 rushing yards, so it was a balanced offense. The defense allowed only 130 passing yards and 100 rushing yards, so it wasn’t a huge difference. Turnovers were key in this game, with MTHS having five and Logan Elm with zero.
- In three games this season, MTHS has eight turnovers, so that could be something to watch when they face Goshen in Week 4. The Warriors have already faced an FAC team this season, defeating Hillsboro in Week 2, 14-7.
- Miami Trace has a lot of positives, and it will be interesting to see how they play against the Warriors, with Goshen this season scoring 35 points in their first three games combined, while they have allowed 70 points.
- The Panthers this season have scored 77 points and allowed 101 points through three games, with two of their opponents scoring 35 or more points. One player to keep an eye on is MTHS running back Asher LeBeau, who in Week 3 totaled 17 carries for 111 yards and one touchdown.
- Washington is coming off their strongest win of the season with 306 yards passing and 194 yards rushing. The defense of the Blue Lions held Paint Valley to 96 yards passing. PVHS did have 160 yards rushing, but Washington pitched a shutout on defense.
- The Blue Lions also had no turnovers last Friday in their second win of the season, and the player to watch is Calum Brown, who totaled three receptions for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Those are great numbers and something to keep note of.
- In three games, Washington quarterback Troy Thompson has 902 yards passing with eight touchdown passes.
- This is another tough challenge for the Blue Lions because their Week 4 game is against the 3-0 Minford Falcons who have wins against Rock Hill (33-14), Chesapeake (41-7) and Wellston (53-12). Minford has outscored their three opponents, 127-33 in ’22. Opponents for Minford are 4-5 thus far this season, with Rock Hill and Chesapeake each being 2-1 overall.
- Washington has outscored their opponents 123-60 thus far in 2022.
