HHS boys golf advances to districts; 4th in SCOL

This week, the Hillsboro Indians boys golf team placed in the Top 5 in the sectional tournament, continuing their season to the Division II SE District tournament.
Finishing in the Top 5 at sectionals, which was held at Shawnee State Park, were Gallia Academy in first with a score of 332, followed by Chesapeake (332), Portsmouth (354), Hillsboro (363) and Jackson (366).
The SE District Tournament will be played on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at the Pickaway Country Club in Circleville.
Hillsboro's Austin Bagshaw was medalist with a 72. Other Hillsboro scores included: Alex Vanzant (90), Jacob Deatley (99), Cole Reveal (102) and Travis Wehrung (105).
"For Hillsboro to advance is huge," Hillsboro coach Dan Spidel said. "The team consists of sophomores and freshmen, and they are getting fantastic tournament experience at such a young age.
"The sectional was played in miserable conditions … wet, rainy, cold, windy. For them to keep fighting for 18 holes and advance is just tremendous."

Spidel also spoke about the medalist Bagshaw.
"Austin's round of 72 is the best sectional score Hillsboro has had in a very long time," he said. "For him to shoot that score in such weather really shows how hard he works at his game and how well he is able to stay focused. I couldn't be more proud of him and for the team."
On Saturday (Sept. 22), the Indians finished in fourth place in the South Central Ohio League tournament at the Buckeye Hills Golf Course.
Washington won the league title with a score of 341 (in the match), followed by Miami Trace (342), London (347), Hillsboro (348), McClain (349), East Clinton (351), Clinton-Massie (360) and Madison-Plains (422).
Final overall SCOL standings were Washington with a record of 24-4, followed by LHS (23-5), Miami Trace (21-7), HHS (13-15), EC (11-17), CM (10-18), MHS (10-18) and MP (0-28).
In the SCOL championships, Bagshaw was co-medalist at 78, tied with Garrett Woods of EC.
HHS scores last Saturday were: Bagshaw (78), Vanzant (88), Deatley (88), Spencer Michael (94), Reveal (97) and Wehrung (116).
At the conclusion of the SCOL match, the following earned All-SCOL honors: Austin Bagshaw (HHS) (Player of the Year), Garrett Woods (EC), Kyle Clifton (CM), Kyle Miller (EC), Christian Johnson (WCH), Seth Willman (MHS) and Bradley Wilson (LHS).
