Blue Lions send Hillsboro to FAC home loss

HILLSBORO – The Hillsboro Indians had no answer to stopping Washington’s Tanner Lemaster, whether it be in the paint or from three-point range, as the Blue Lions visited and defeated the host Indians, 69-53 Friday night.
Lemaster led the Blue Lions with 34 points, as he finished with four 3-pointers, six two-point baskets and he was 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. He had 16 of his 34 points in the first half, including three 3-pointers.
The game itself in the first frame was close for the Indians, with the home team trailing 14-13 after one quarter. The Indians had six points from Bryce Parsons in the frame, while Canaan Griffith sank a 3-pointer, plus Spencer Wyckoff and Ethan Parry each made a basket, as HHS held the lead on two occasions in the opening quarter.
Washigton’s first-quarter scoring included a 3-pointer by Raleigh Haithcock, six points by Lemaster and five points by Isaiah Haithcock.
The second frame was closely played as well, with Washington outscoring the Indians, 20-17 for a halftime lead over HHS of 34-30.
Washington began the second frame with four straight points by Isaiah Haithcock and Reico Colter for a five-point lead, only to see the Indians gain two points off a layup by Quintin Captain. Next, a 3-pointer by Hunter Price tied the game at 18 with 6:05 left in the second frame.
From the 5:47 mark to the 2:13 mark of the second quarter, both teams exchanged baskets on three occasions, with Hillsboro having a 3-pointer by Captain, a 3-pointer by Griffith and a jumper from Jayse Middleton, putting HHS in the lead at 26-24 with 2:13 left in the quarter. In that same span, Washington had points scored by Micah Brown and Lemaster.
The Blue Lions regained the lead with a 3-pointer from Lemaster at the 1:19 mark of the second, but HHS forced a tied score at 27 points each when Captain knocked down a free throw. The second quarter came to a close as Colter and Lemaster combined for Washington’s seven points in the final minute, while HHS had a three-point play by Price for a halftime score of 34-30 in favor of the visiting Blue Lions.
HHS never held the lead in the third quarter as they were outscored 16-9 in the eight minutes of game action. Washington in the third had eight points from Lemaster and two points each from Colter, Raleigh Haithcock, Brown and Isaiah Haithcock.
Hillsboro’s third-quarter scoring included six points from Price and a 3-pointer from Captain.
Washington also won the fourth quarter at 19-14 with the Blue Lions having 10 points in the final frame scored by Lemaster, along with six points by Colter, and 3-pointer from Brown. HHS had points in the fourth quarter from Parry (six), Captain (two) and Price (six).
For the game, HHS was led by Price with 18 points, with his numbers coming from seven two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he was 1-for-1 from the free-throw line. Captain finished with 11 points, as he collected two two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and he was 1-for-2 from the free-throw line.
The rest of the HHS final scoring saw Parry with eight points, Griffith with six points, Parsons with six points, and with two points each were Wyckoff and Middleton.
As a team, the Indians made 18 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers and were 2-of-5 from the free-throw line.
Lemaster led Washington with 34 points, and next were Colter with 14 points and Isaiah Haithcock with nine points. The remainder of the Blue Lions scoring included Brown with seven points and Raleigh Haithcock with five points.
