Hillsboro High School graduate and University of Cincinnati pole vaulter Austin Goolsby set a new personal best mark Friday, April 15 at the 2022 Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
According to Lexi Mehallis of UC, “Goolsby set a new outdoor personal record with his clearance of 5.22m (17-1.5) that earned him second at [the] meet. Both he and the first-place finisher cleared the same height, but he was awarded second based on a miss at a previous height.
“This mark puts him in the top 30 in the nation currently.”
Also at the Tom Jones Invitational, fellow HHS alumnus and UC track and field athlete Jeremy Hayton was ninth place in the high jump event with a jump of 1.95m.
According to UC, Goolsby’s previous outdoor PR was 16-2.75 (4.95m). His indoor record is 17-03.00 (5.26m), set in January.
Goolsby, a 2018 Hillsboro graduate, is a former OHSAA state pole vault champion (junior year) and state runner-up (senior year).
