All even: Lady Indians, Lady Falcons stay tied in SCOL

HILLSBORO — The road to the South Central Ohio League girls soccer came to a standstill Thursday evening at Richards Memorial Field in Hillsboro.
The match between the visiting Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons and Hillsboro Lady Indians was full of elbows, pushes, bumping, stumbling and a little scoring as the two league rivals tied at 1-1, keeping both teams undefeated in the league.
Only the Lady Indians and Lady Falcons have been crowned champions of the SCOL in recent memory, with CM winning the past three titles and HHS being in second place in that span.
In their previous meeting this season the score was the same, tied at 1-1, but HHS coach Leslie Molen said it was a different style match at CMHS. The tie moves HHS to 5-0-2 in the SCOL and 7-0-2. CM stands at 5-0-2 in the SCL and 8-0-2 overall.
"The first time we played, it was slower," Molen said. "This time … the game was much faster."
On Thursday, both teams kept pace with one another with the game tied at halftime and both goals coming in the final 10 minutes of the 80-minute match.
The Lady Indians scored first with 8:19 remaining on the clock with Taylor Moberly scoring the goal from 10 yards out to the near post for the 1-0 lead.
After HHS celebrated their goal, the Lady Falcons increased the intensity of the match, tying the match at one with a goal to the left post of the net from Alexis Bosier with 4:23 left on the scoreboard clock.
"The effort by both teams was outstanding," Molen said. "The starters played close to 80 strong minutes."
In the first half, both Hillsboro had opportunities to score, but neither team could finish on their scoring opportunities.
Early in the opening half, both teams had big stops at the goal, as the game was physical from the start of the first whistle.
HHS had an opportunity to score near the 23:20 mark by CM keeper Alex Cranmer, but the Lady Indians overshot the CM goal near the 22-minute mark, keeping the match scoreless.
Near the first 20 minutes of the match, each team couldn't get off their fast break opportunity, but HHS came back, again, with a near goal with 17:27, followed by CM kicking the ball away on a HHS corner kick opportunity near the 17:08 mark.
In the final minutes of the first half, HHS keeper Sara Sexton made a big save for HHS, and on a 2-on-2 situation with CM gaining possession, the Lady Indian defense stepped up and stopped the attempt.
Sexton finished the match with five saves.
Before all of the scoring in the second half, each team had opportunities to score before they did, but both keepers, along with their defense help, didn't allow much offense.
"We went after the ball much better in the second half," Molen said. "We were a little off our game tonight to say the least."
In the second half with 10:36 left, Sexton made a big stop, catching a ball kicked hard by CM captain Hayley Brausch.
Each team even turned up the pace in the final minutes with Trista Rhodes hitting the ball off the left post and Sexton catching a kick by CM with 51 seconds remaining in the match.
HHS will play again on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they travel to Lynchburg-Clay in a cross-county match between two undefeated teams starting at 1 p.m. On Tuesday, Sept. 27, HHS will travel to Greenfield to take on cross-county rival McClain in a SCOL match at 5 p.m. Their next home match will be on Thursday, Sept. 29 when they host Miami Trace in a SCOL match.
