5 Hillsboro runners qualify for state championships

Hillsboro High School will be represented once again at annual State Track and Field Championships in Columbus.

Hillsboro will have five student-athletes represent their school in three events at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium next week, as they qualified in the top four at the Athens Regionals on Saturday.

Leading HHS is senior Jarrod Hart, as he was the Division II Athens Regional champion in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.66.

[[In-content Ad]]Hart, who will run Division I track for the University of Cincinnati next spring, had a time of 1:56.82 at the Washington C.H. Districts and 2:03.83 at the South Central Ohio League meet, both first-place finishes.

Last year at the state championships in the 800m run, Hart placed sixth with a time of 1:57.60.

Megan Overberg was fourth in the 400m dash at 59.07, qualifying for one of two events at this year's state championships. In the prelims, Overberg had a time of 58.99.

Overberg was 12th at the state championships (60.54) last year.

The Lady Indians also have their 4x400m relay team qualifying for the state championships, as the group of Allison Goolsby, Taylor Stanforth, Brittany Ferrell and Overberg were second at the Athens Regionals with a time of 4:03.49. The team ran a time of 4:08.60 in the prelims.

Last year, HHS also qualified for the state championships in the 4x400m relay, with Ferrell and Overberg a part of the team that finished 14th with a time of 4:11.70.

The Division II State Track and Field Championships will take place on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, located on the campus of The Ohio State University.

Also at the regionals, Hillsboro's Joe Beery was eighth in the 3200m run with a time of 10:25.00.

McClain freshman Jhaela Coleman finished in seventh place in the 200m dash at 26.66.

McClain's Coleston Walters was 10th in the high jump with a distance of 6-00.00.

Also for MHS, Tara Karnes placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 35-02.25.

Seth Willman of MHS was 12th in the 100m dash in regionals (11.75), and Mikel Pritchard was 14th in the 400m dash at 53.98.

The MHS boys 4x100m relay placed sixth with a time of 44.85, with a team consisting of James Morris, Willman, John Turner and Jordan Goble.

Goble and Turner also competed in the long jump event with Goble placing fifth at 20-08.25 and Turner 15th at 19-00.75.

MHS also had a 4x200m relay team of Morris, Turner, Thomas Schrader and Goble place 15th with a time of 1:37.89.

The HHS boys 4x400m relay team (Gabriel Tamborski, Mackenzie Conlon, Braden Wildey and Hart) were 13th at 3:44.53, and the 4x800m relay team (De-Andre Steward, Beery, Conlon and Hart) from HHS was ninth at 8:25.26.
