Veterans Day observed at Lynchburg-Clay High School

Lynchburg-Clay High School hosted their annual Veterans Day program on Friday, Nov. 11. The ceremony was directed by the school’s student council members and advisor, Mrs. Tiffany Barnett.
Each veteran was greeted at the door by a member of student council. One of the students would then escort them to the library, where they were served donuts, fruit, cookies and refreshments. The day started off great with one of Lynchburg’s best Veterans Day ceremonies. Forty-six veterans were in attendance for the program.
The ceremony started off with the high school band performing the “Star-Spangled Banner” by Francis Scott Key. Each veteran that attended was introduced by Taylor Scott. Captain Anthony Christmas served as the guest speaker and made a very inspirational speech. A military tribute video was then shown, which represented each branch of the military. Most guests found the video to be very touching.
After the video, Mrs. Linda Hatten and the entire student body stood and gave the veterans a standing ovation. The color guard topped off the ceremony by raising the flag to half-mast and a 21-gun salute. Taps were played by Lynchburg-Clay band members, Bianca Rudnick and Marissa Ayres.
