Johnson, whose hometown is just outside Dallas, began his cross-country hike last June, following the Appalachian Trail.
He is now walking along U.S. Route 50, the American Discovery Trail.
Johnson said he would turn south to Louisville from Cincinnati, then west to St. Louis, where he planned to stay with friends.
