Strickland appoints two to SSCC board

Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland’s office has announced two appointments this week to the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees.
According to Amanda Wurst, Strickland’s press secretary, Strickland has appointed Michelle Cimis, of Hillsboro, and Leilani Popp, of Wilmington, to the board.
There were four open board seats after Clinton County member Don Gephart resigned from the board earlier this year, and Ralph Shell,
Highland County, and Patty Griffiths and Jim Ward, both of Fayette County, went off the board in May.
After board appointments come to an end, according to SSCC, members can serve for 60 days. Griffiths and Ward were both in attendance and voted during the June board meeting.
Two board seats remain open. At present, there are no board members from Fayette County.
Cimis and Popp will join current board members, Kay Ayres, Highland County; Paul Hall, Brown County; Ben Houser, Brown County; Rory Ryan, Adams
County; and Dr. Vicki Wilson, Clinton County.
Cimis, according to Strickland’s office, has worked with Grant Thornton LLP since 2005 and has been a chief fiscal officer for the law firm
Schottenstein, Zox and Dunn. She is an 1989 graduate of Ohio State University.
Popp is a former member of the Wilmington City Council. She has been a sales manager for Books ‘N’ More in Wilmington since 1996 and has served as
chairperson for the Downtown Wilmington Community Improvement Corporation.
She is a 1973 graduate of Ohio University.
“Whenever we are looking to fill a vacancy on a board of trustees for a college or university it is important to the governor that the person is
dedicated, not only to serving the state, but also ensuring we have the best educated workforce,” Wurst said.
