State lawmakers look to add calamity days for schools

An Ohio Senate panel has approved a bill to allow schools two additional calamity days for the 2010-11 academic year.

State lawmakers are expected to pass legislation to provide relief to school districts that have run out of "snow days."

The bill would increase schools' calamity days from three to five.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich supports more calamity days.

Ohio schools used to have five calamity days; however, former Gov. Ted Strickland signed legislation to reduce the number to three.

If approved by the full Senate, the bill will then move to the House for consideration.[[In-content Ad]]
