Sen. Peterson visits county commissioners

Ohio's 17th District Sen. Bob Peterson visited the Highland County Board of Commissioners during the April 4 board meeting.

The senator, who replaced former Sen. David Daniels of Greenfield, said he was touching base with officials in parts of the 17th Senate District.

Peterson represents Clinton, Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Pike, Ross and Vinton counties as well as portions of Lawrence and Pickaway counties.

Peterson told commissioners the General Assembly and governor's office are working on the state's mid-budget review, which will reach 4,400 pages by the time lawmakers finish their work.

Commissioner Tom Horst requested the senator's assistance in securing funding for the county's antiquated emergency radio system at the Sheriff's Office.

Peterson agreed to work with the county.

According to his Senate website, Peterson and his family are the eighth generation of Petersons to farm in the U.S. They raises corn, soybeans, wheat and livestock on his family’s 1,800-acre farm. Peterson has been active in Farm Bureau in a variety of leadership positions, culminating in his service as Ohio Farm Bureau president for nearly five years.

In addition to his farming duties, Peterson served as a Fayette County commissioner for 14 years before being elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2011. He was appointed to the Ohio Senate in 2012, and now serves as a member of the Senate Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Committee, the Financial Institutions Committee and the State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee.

Bob and his wife, Lisa, are the parents of Sarah, Hannah and Todd. They live in Fayette County.
