Rep. Peterson announces $1 million for Ross County brownfield remediation

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Bob Peterson (R-Washington Court House) announces the recent funding of $1 million to the Ross County Land Reutilization Corporation from the Ohio Department of Development’s Brownfield Remediation Program.

“This investment is a game-changer for Chillicothe,” said Peterson. “By transforming the former CSX property, we are building a brighter future that will bring new development. This project is a significant step toward economic growth and a stronger community.”

The $1 million will be used to remediate the former CSX property adjacent to Chillicothe’s City Transit Station. The project will support future residential and commercial development, including infrastructure for electric vehicle transportation.  Once completed, the city of Chillicothe plans to develop affordable workforce housing and transit-related facilities on the site.

Funding for the redevelopment and preservation comes from the state’s Brownfield Remediation Program, which has awarded more than $560 million across the state to create economic growth and opportunity through the redevelopment of abandoned and dilapidated properties.
