Rep. Carey to serve as chairman of House committee
State Representative John Carey (R-Wellston) was appointed by House Speaker William G. Batchelder (R-Medina) to serve as chairman of the
Primary and Secondary Education Subcommittee of the Finance and Appropriations Committee during the 129th General Assembly.
In addition, Rep. Carey will serve as vice chair of the Finance and Appropriations Committee and will also join the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and the State Controlling Board.
“It is truly an honor to be appointed by Speaker Batchelder to serve in the roles of chair and vice chair of two of the House’s most important committees,” said Rep. Carey. “I look forward to working for the people of the 87th District in the Ohio House and considering vital legislation during the committee process.”
Carey has served the people of southern Ohio in the Legislature since 1995, having also served as mayor of Wellston from 1988 to 1994. He
represents the 87th Ohio House District, which includes Gallia, Jackson and Vinton counties, as well as portions of Ross and Lawrence counties.
