For a small state, Ohio has had a big impact on America. Meet the co-authors of “It Happened in Ohio” during a special event 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Learning Resources Center on Southern State Community College’s South Campus, 12681 U.S. Route 62, near Sardinia. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
Co-authors Carol Cartaino and Denvis Earls will delve into “It Happened in Ohio” to go behind the scenes as they tell the state’s story in short episodes, revealing the intriguing people and events that shaped the Buckeye State. This agricultural, political and industrial power has long been known for the vigor, earnestness and imagination of its citizens.
Cartaino has more than 40 years' experience as an editor, author's collaborator and author herself, helping to make nonfiction subjects of all kinds appealing to a general-interest audience. She spent 10 years as an editor for the trade division of Prentice-Hall Inc. before she moved to Ohio to become the editor-in-chief of Writer’s Digest Books in Cincinnati. After a decade there, she moved to a small farm in Seaman and began a partnership with a literary agency.
Earls retired from a career in business and politics, pursuing his interest in history later in life. He obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Northern Illinois University and now teaches Ohio and American history at Wilmington College. He was the 2002 recipient of the Hugh Jameson Prize for original historical research.nterest audience.
