House committee approves SB 5 along party lines

The Ohio House Commerce and Labor Committee has voted, 9-6, in support of a bill that would limit collective bargaining rights for 350,000 state public workers.
The vote was along party lines and House Democrats offered no amendments to the legislation.
The committee made several changes to the bill that passed the Senate by a 17-16 vote earlier this month.
A vote on the bill in the Ohio House of Representatives could come as early as Wednesday, March 30.
State Sen. David Daniels, a Greenfield Republican, voted in favor of the bill, introduced by Sen. Shannon Jones, R-Springboro, which has the support of Gov. John Kasich, and would eliminate collective bargaining for certain state employees – including police officers, firefighters and teachers, among others – and base future pay rates and increases on merit.
State Rep. Cliff Rosenberger, R-Clarksville, has said he is in favor of many of the reforms in SB 5.
