“When you do wrong, no one forgets. When you do good, no one remembers. Well, I’m going to remember these guys,” Hillsboro resident William Gehring said.
“These guys” are Anthony Meade and Don Strickland of D-N-A Home Improvement.
Gehring, 72, told The Highland County Press that when his roof was in recent need of repair, Meade and Strickland were contacted – in the middle of the hottest week of weather this year.
“I have a two-story house, and they were up there for over an hour,” Gehring said. “It must have been 95 to 100 degrees.”
Gehring said when they finished, he asked, “What do I owe you?”
According to Gehring, they replied, “You already paid.”
Gehring said the two contractors noticed a “Vietnam veteran” bumper sticker on his SUV, and they had asked him about his military service.
After completing the roof repairs, they decided not to bill Gehring.
Gehring said the contractors were recommended by an office employee of Randy Dresbach at State Farm Insurance in Hillsboro.
“I have a $500 deductible, and I needed about $600 in repairs, and I really didn’t have the money,” Gehring said. “These guys were just great. They wouldn’t even take a glass of ice water. But I left the water in their truck, anyway.
“I just want to say a public thank you to these men,” Gehring said. “We always hear about the bad things, but I want people to hear about the good
things, too.”
