On Oct. 12, the Hillsboro Police Department responded to a shoplifting call at Kmart. After investigation, it was found that Joey Fender and Amanda Brown, both of Hillsboro, had taken items off the shelf and concealed them in their purses. Fender had been stopped by loss prevention, and Brown had made it outside. Brown had received a text message that the police were coming and for her to leave. Brown was stopped by officers and arrested for theft and obstructing official business. It was later found that Fender had a syringe in the glove box of her car and stolen items from another store. Joey Fender was arrested for theft, obstructing official business and possession of drug abuse instrument.
At 8:52 a.m., a two-car collision was reported in the 500 block of South East Street. Ann Morris, 52, of Hillsboro, was southbound on South East Street when a dog ran out in front of her vehicle. She stopped quickly. David Runyon, 47, of Hillsboro was traveling behind Morris and was unable to stop in time before hitting her in the rear. No injurers were reported, and Runyon was cited for assured clear distance ahead.[[In-content Ad]]
