Greenfield Historical Society to host annual Tea and Conversation with Rear Admiral Irwin

The Greenfield Historical Society will be hosting their annual Tea on Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at the Konneker Education Center, also known as the Old Stone School House, located at 245 South Street.

This year’s featured guest will be Rear Admiral Noble Edward Irwin, one of the most highly decorated servicemen from the Greenfield community.

Irwin graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1891, where he also served as captain of the Navy football team. He served in the U.S. Navy until his retirement in 1933. His illustrious career included commanding several USS navy ships, serving as a Commandant, and being awarded the Navy Cross for meritorious service. Irwin will be portrayed by Danny Long who has frequently contributed his talents as a presenter for the Historical Society.

Danny played the role of Edward Lee McClain in the first Historical Society Tea in 2009 and has also portrayed the lives of many local citizens in the Historical Society’s annual Ghost Walks.

Presale tickets for this year’s annual event are $10 and will go on sale April 12 at the Home Building and Loan, located at 355 Jefferson Street in Greenfield. Tickets at the door will be $12. All seating is reserved due to limited space. For more information, call 937.981.2905.
