Fence comes down in front of Parker House

A security fence that had blocked the West Main Street entrance to the Parker House in uptown Hillsboro has been taken down.
Workers were busy Thursday morning removing the barrier.
According to Hillsboro Mayor Dick Zink, a recent correspondence from deputy law director Kathryn Hapner to Jack Hope, owner of the Parker House, had requested Hope "take full responsibility" for the building and any safety issues.
"To the best of my knowledge, Jack hasn't responded yet," Zink said.
The mayor said the fence was not scheduled to be removed Thursday. However, after speaking with Safety-Service Director Ralph Holt, they agreed to leave the fence down along West Main Street, but keep it intact in the alley to the west of the building.
Hillsboro restaurant owner Vickie Reffitt said she "thanks everyone who was responsible for taking the fence down. Now my customers will have more parking," she said.[[In-content Ad]]
