Dow Walker competes in Ironman Competition in Idaho

Dow Walker, a 1980 graduate of Hillsboro High School, recently competed in the annual Ironman Race at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
The race consists of a 2.4-mile swim; a 112-mile bike ride; and a marathon run of 26.2 miles.
The race started at 7 a.m., and participants had until midnight to finish. There were over 2,500 participants (men and women) competing.
This was Walker's first ironman triathlon, and he was pleased to finish in 1,693rd place with times of 1 hours, 47 minutes in the swim; 6 hours, 57 minutes in the cycling; and 5 hours, 23 minutes in the run for a total time of 14 hours, 35 minutes.
Participants come from all over the world for this competition and pay their own expenses.
There is no prize money involved for over 95 percent of the participants, and most of them train hard for at least a year to prepare for an ironman race. Walker hopes to finish higher in future ironman races.[[In-content Ad]]
