Daniels to serve as chairman of Senate Energy and Public Utilities Committee

State Senator David T. Daniels (R- Greenfield) has announced that has been named chairman of the Senate Energy and Public Utilities Committee and vice-chair of the State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee by Senate President Tom Niehaus (R- New Richmond). 

He was also named to the influential Senate Finance Committee and the Financial Institutions Committee, now a standalone panel separate from Finance.

“My assignments cover a diverse array of topics, but they all impact Ohio’s ability to grow its economy and promote job creation – whether through passing a fiscally responsible state budget, ensuring that our banking, energy and utility industries remain competitive, or helping our state and local government entities operate as efficiently as possible,” Daniels said. “Each of these committees will play an important role as we work to address the many challenges facing our state, and I am honored to serve on all of them.” 

The Energy and Public Utilities Committee deals with issues related to the regulation and oversight of gas, electric, cable television and telephone service providers. During his tenure in the Ohio House of Representatives, Daniels was the primary sponsor of a telecom reform bill that opened the door for investment in infrastructure development by the major telecom companies and also paved the way for competition in product deployment.

As vice-chair of the State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee, Daniels will work with members on policies and issues impacting the roles and responsibilities of state and local governments, as well as issues affecting veterans and veteran organizations. He will also play an important role in the development of the state operating budget and on policy issues dealing with the regulation of entities such as banks and credit unions as a member of the Finance Committee and the Financial Institutions Committee.
