Dale Ison's 'Hero Truck' gets rave reviews at World of Wheels
Dale Ison's "Hero Truck" was one of the most popular vehicles on display this past weekend at the World of Wheels at the Abilene, Texas Civic Center.
A report at www.reporternews.com said "the beautifully painted 'Hero Truck' stood out, as its lift bars raised it to 15 to 20 feet above the floor. Paintings of well-known and everyday heroes covered nearly every square inch, including inside the cab — and the underside of the truck bed cover.
Ison, of Highand County, is "the man behind the truck."
“The response has been way beyond my dreams,” he told reporternews. “Last summer, a Marine walked up to me in Phoenix and said, ‘God bless you, Dale. It’s a great thing you’ve done for us. You have no idea what it means in our hearts.’ He had gotten two Purple Hearts, and he offered me one,” Ison said. “That showed me the intense power it was invoking from these great men and women.”
Ison said it took five years to complete the first of a series of Hero trucks at a cost of $658,000.
