CVB elects new board members

The Highland County Convention and Visitors Bureau met on Feb. 3 to confirm new members and elect officers for 2011. Ron Current, Suzanne Hopkins, and Bob Lambert were confirmed as members, and Betty Bishop was also confirmed if she was still interested in serving. Bishop was not at the meeting; unfortunately, she did not receive notice of the date and time.

The officers for 2011 are as follows: Kirby Ellison, president; Tom Horst, vice president; and Kathryn Hapner, treasurer/secretary. With the addition of the new board members, the CVB Board of Directors is now fully seated. Sharon Hughes and Mark Patel complete the roster. The Board has contacted Rocky Fork State Park to see if they could send a representative to serve as a board member or to participate in an advisory manner.

The Board engaged in in-depth conversation on how to promote travel and tourism in the CVB and to receive resumes and qualifications by Feb. 15; Hapner would place the ads with the Highland County Press and the Times-Gazette.

In her treasurer's report, Hapner expressed the difficulty she was having getting the CVB records released at the Chamber of Commerce office. She has written letters to companies that have submitted statements, requesting actual invoices for payment, which are standard operating procedure and the preferred method required by the auditors.

The next meeting of the CVB Board is scheduled for Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center.[[In-content Ad]]
