Curliss announces candidacy for state representative
Laura Curliss has announced her candidacy for state representative for Ohio's 86th House District, which
includes Clinton, Highland and Pike counties.
Curliss held a press conference at the Highland County Administration building after filing with the Highland County Board of Elections.
“Putting people back to work in Clinton, Highland and Pike counties will be the focus of my campaign and the primary goal of my representation of them as state representative of the 86th District. Nothing is more important than full employment for the people of this district. Highland County has experienced the highest unemployment in the state recently, and Clinton and Pike counties have suffered, too. This situation must be turned around,” Curliss said in a news release to The Highland County Press.
Along with Wilmington Mayor David Raizk and Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher, Curliss coordinated the Economic Task Force for the DHL Airpark in Wilmington since May 28, 2008. This bipartisan task force, comprised of elected officials, education, business and economic development leaders from Clinton, Highland and other counties, was instrumental in bringing more than $8 million in National Emergency Grant funds to the region for worker retraining and career advancement and in supporting negotiations with DHL that are expected to result in the donation of the Airpark back to the local control of the Clinton County Port Authority.
Curliss will face Bill Horne of Hillsboro in the Democratic primary. Cliff Rosenberger of Clinton County has filed as a Republican candidate for the seat currently held by Rep. David Daniels.
