Commissioners proclaim Make a Difference Day for Altrusa

The Highland County Board of Commissioners proclaimed Oct. 22 as Make a Difference Day by Altrusa of Highland County. Altrusa of Highland County was established in 1994 as a chapter of Altrusa International.

The mission of Altrusa of Highland County is to promote literacy among the citizens and children of Highland County. Their accomplishments include providing books to newborns, kindergartners and third- and sixth-grade students in Highland County; establishing and supporting the ASTRA Club at Hillsboro High School; raising funds to sponsor
scholarships and supporting the Southern State Community College Adult Basic Literacy Education program; and supporting the Highland County District Libraries. Altrusa participates in Make a Difference Day by doing a project of giving and helping those in Highland County.

Commissioners encourage all citizens to recognize the valuable contributions of Altrusa of Highland County.
