Commissioners OK ATM for clerk's office

The Highland County Board of Commissioners has announced it will accept letters of interest for an appointed position on the Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities for the current term ending Dec. 31, 2014. Send letters to the Highland County Board of Commissioners, 119 Governor Foraker Place, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
The Board will accept letters until 4 p.m. on Aug. 15, 2011.
Thus far, commissioners have announced that Roberta Karnes has expressed interest in the appointment.
As first reported by The Highland County Press, the Highland County Board of Commissioners are awaiting an opinion from the office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine regarding the next appointment to the Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Commission President Shane Wilkin said that commissioners have requested an opinion from Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins, and that Collins has requested an opinion from the AG's office in Columbus.
Commissioners have to fill a board vacancy created on June 28 when Board of DD Superintendent Chuck Biggert told board member Sam Snyder that after serving for nearly six months, he is not eligible to be on the board.

During the commissioners' July 27 meeting, Wilkin said the request for a legal opinion has been assigned to an attorney and the state has "up to 90 days to respond."
"So we'll go ahead and advertise the vacancy, pending the attorney general's ruling," Wilkin said this week.
• In other business, commissioners met with Dan Cowdrey from the Highland County Airport Authority for contract signings.
• Commissioners met with Highland County Clerk of Courts regarding the placement of an ATM inside the clerk's office. Commissioners vote, 3-0, to allow the ATM. A fee of 75 cents per transaction will go to the clerk's office.
• Commissioners met with AFLAC representative Linda Kujawa for an overview of the county's medical insurance contract.
