Chillicothe Correctional Institution (CCI) and the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association (OCSEA)/AFSCME Local 11 Adena Chapter 7120 joined forces recently to give back to the local community through the Adena Health Foundation.  After participating in a Teddy Bear run with the Moose Riders, Darrel Creager and Jackie Arbaugh, CCI Account Clerk, decided to organize fundraising efforts for Adena Pediatrics by collecting pop tabs. According to Arbaugh, over a nine-month period, CCI employees and inmate crews collected 160 pounds of pop tabs totaling $32.00.  Feeling a little surprised that the monetary amount earned from the large amount of pop tabs collected was so low compared to the volume, they approached Union officials and the Warden regarding their fundraising efforts.  To assist with the project, members of the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association (OCSEA) voted to donate $1,500 toward the effort.  After approaching the local Eagles, Chillicothe Moose Lodge and Haller Funeral Home, in addition to individual donations and a "Jeans Week" event at the institution, a total of $2,732 was raised for Adena's Inpatient Pediatric Unit and new Level II Nursery.
Going forward to raise on-going support for the new Nursery, RLS Recycling in Chillicothe and Rumpke Recycling in Circleville have teamed with Adena Health Foundation to donate market value plus a premium for aluminum cans delivered to their facilities.  In order to ensure the donation is credited to Adena, individuals must inform the scale agent that the donation is for Adena.
