University of the Cumberlands softball projected fourth in the Mid-South Conference Preseason Poll, as announced by league officials on Friday, Jan. 8.
Leading the way was Lindsey Wilson, who received 90 points with nine first-place votes. Both Campbellsville and Georgetown received one first-place vote as well as earning 87 and 72 points respectively.
Cumberlands finished just four points behind Georgetown, earning 68 points for fourth place overall.
A season ago, UC was picked to finish second in the conference and received a single first-place vote. Due to COVID-19, the Patriots never competed in MSC play and finished with an 8-12 record. Cumberlands did end the 2020 season on a three-game winning streak, including a victory over Rio Grande, who was receiving votes in the NAIA poll.
The Patriots keep the core of their team from a season ago, including Madison Huber who led the team in batting average, doubles and slugging percentage. UC also returns Kaiti White to the circle after a stellar freshman campaign leading the pitching staff in ERA, strikeouts and innings pitched.

UC opens up their season with a road trip through Florida starting with a doubleheader at Warner on Feb. 12, with games slated for 5 and 7 p.m.
