Transylvania women’s basketball climbs into Top 5 with No. 4 national ranking in WBCA, D3Hoops.com polls

The undefeated Transylvania women's basketball team moved up to its highest national ranking this season, ascending to the No. 4 spot in both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll and the D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll.

Transylvania moved up four spots in the WBCA poll after being ranked No. 8 in the previous release and scaled up seven spots in the D3Hoops.com poll.

(Editor’s note: The team includes senior and former Fairfield standout Grace Shope of Leesburg.)

The Pioneers are off to a 10-0 beginning this season, their best start in the eight-year Juli Fulks era. The No. 4 national rankings are also the highest the Pioneers have been ranked over the past eight seasons. Six of Transylvania's wins have come by double figures this season, while they have won four games by a margin of 20 or more points.

Leading the top three of the WBCA poll are Hope, Amherst and Christopher Newport, while Amherst and Christopher Newport flipped spots in the top 3 of the D3Hoops.com Top 25.  

Transylvania's last three scheduled games against Manchester, Earlham and Defiance were canceled due to opponents’ COVID protocols. The Pioneers are currently next scheduled to play against Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. in Lexington.
