Lions win 1 of 2 at Washington

Though both teams each had a five-run inning, it was the Fairfield Lions who added the most runs in game one as they defeated the host Washington Blue Lions, 14-10 Saturday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader.
FHS (5-3) lost game two, 6-3.
In the first of two games, Washington led 5-1 after the first inning, but that didn't matter to the visiting Lions, as they regrouped for a three-run second and five-run third for a 9-5 lead after three innings.
In the fourth, Washington outscored the FHS Lions, 2-1, but again, it was FHS with another multi-run inning as they tacked on four runs in the top of the fifth. Washington's final three runs came in the sixth.
Both teams finished with 11 hits each and three errors.
Gage Montgomery led the FHS Lions with a 3-for-5 day (one double), as he collected three runs and two RBIs. He also added a stolen base.
With two hits each were Quintin Schaffer, Blake Hildebrant and Isaiah Liggins. Gaining one hit each were Wyatt Crothers and Zach Cox.
Schaffer not only had two hits, but he collected four RBIs and two runs. That was topped by five RBIs from Hildebrant as the junior also added one run, two doubles and one steal. Liggins had one RBI to go with his two hits and one run.

Crothers added three runs and one RBI.
Cody Bennett totaled two runs and two walks. Joey Wilson had one RBI with one walk and one run. Dylan Rohde collected one run and two walks.
For game one, FHS had 11 hits and seven walks.
Cox earned the win for the FHS Lions. Cox pitched five innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on seven hits and five walks. Schaffer pitched two innings, allowing three runs (none earned) on four hits and one walk in relief.
In game two, the Lions scored two runs in the second and one in the sixth in their 6-3 loss. WCH added four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
FHS totaled seven hits in the second game with Cox having a 3-for-3 game two at the plate, while Schaffer went 2-for-3 for the multi-hit performances in game two.
Also gaining hits for FHS in the night cap were Hildebrant and Liggins.
RBIs were off the bats of Montgomery and Liggins with one each. Cox scored two of the three runs, while Wilson had one. Bennett and Wilson each forced a walk, while Bennett had a stolen base.
The loss went to Wilson as he pitched six innings. Wilson allowed six runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks. Wilson struck out eight.
FHS will play again on Tuesday as they travel to Peebles for a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game at 5 p.m.
