Lions top Astros for 4th victory

A four-run fourth was more than enough for the Fairfield Lions Thursday afternoon, as they defeated host East Clinton, 5-3.
The nine-hit, five-run performance was able to overcome the four errors the Lions committed, especially the four-run second that gave them the early 4-1 lead, as EC scored their first run in the bottom of the first.
From there, FHS (1-1, 4-2) added one run in the fifth. The Astros' final two runs were scored in the fifth inning.
EC ended the game with four hits and one error.

For FHS, leading at the plate were Quintin Schaffer, Joey Wilson and Wyatt Crothers with two hits each, followed by one hit from Blake Hildebrant, Gage Montgomery and Zach Cox.
Schaffer was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Wilson was also 2-for-3. Crothers went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
Cox, Montgomery and Isaiah Liggins each scored one run as Liggins (who has three home runs this season) drew two walks. Also drawing walks were Cody Bennett, Dylan Rohde and Montgomery.
The pitching win went to Liggins, who tossed six strong innings. Liggins faced 33 batters, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks, while striking out nine. He held the Astros batters to a .143 batting average with an ERA of 2.33 for the game.
