Lions gain two wins over West Union

    LEESBURG - The Fairfield Lions earned two wins this past Saturday, defeating the West Union Dragons 6-5 and 11-1 at Fairfield High School.
    In game one, the Lions broke a 3-3 tie in the third with one run and added two runs in the fourth for a 6-3 advantage.
    FHS took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with Ian Adams reaching the bases with a one out walk. Adams stole second and scored on an RBI single by Tyler Campbell.
    West Union scored three runs in the top of the second, but the Lions tied the game at three with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
    With one out, Kyle Carson forced a walk and stole second base. Austin Hilderbrant followed with a base on balls. After a double steal by the Fairfield base runners, and with two outs, Bobby Wilson singled in both Carson and Hilderbrant.
    In the bottom of the third inning, Adams led off with a single and stole second base. He advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a double by Campbell, giving the Lions a 4-3 lead.
    After the Dragons tied the game at four in the top of the fourth, the Lions gained two runs in the bottom of the same inning to regain the lead at 6-4.
    Chase Fulkerson started the scoring with a one-out walk, followed by stealing second. Wilson plated Fulkerson with a base hit.
    Wilson took second base on a steal and went to third on a SAC bunt by Adams. Nathaniel Miller hit a single to bring home Wilson.
    Wilson finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run. Campbell was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
    Kyle Carson gained the win on the mound for the Lions. Carson, who gained his first varsity win, pitched 6 1-3 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on two hits and four walks. Carson struck out eight.
    Miller gained the save. Miller pitched 2-3 of an inning allowing no hits, runs or walks.

    In game two, the Lions dominated, scoring eight runs in the first three innings for an 11-1 win.
    FHS scored three in the first, four in the second and one in the third innngs for the early 8-1 lead. The Dragons scored their lone run in the second inning.
    Jordan Boles started the first with a double, followed with Bobby Wilson reaching on an infield error by the Dragons. After Wilson stole second base, Campbell knocked in both runners with a single. Nathaniel Miller followed with a single, and each runner perfected a double steal. With both runners in scoring position, Kyle Carson singled, but Campbell was thrown out at home. Sammy Williams scored Miller with a base hit to complete the scoring in the first inning.
    In the bottom of the second, Nathan Hawkins walked for the Lions. With one out, Hawkins stole second. As the Lions were down to their final out, Wilson singled in Hawkins. Campbell walked in the ensuing at-bat. Miller followed with a two-out single to plate Wilson, and Kyle Carson scored Campbell on a base hit. Miller took home after Michael Carson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the RBI.
    In the bottom of the third, Dakota Hargrave singled and stole second base. He took third on a balk and scored on a ground out by Wilson.
    The bottom of the fifth saw Adams, Boles and Wilson all round the bases for runs.
    Wilson was credited with the pitching win. He went five innings on the mound, allowing one run (one earned) on eight hits and no walks. Wilson struck out three.
