Lions gain close win over Peebles, 9-8

PEEBLES - A seven run inning, added with two other runs, allowed the Fairfield Lions to fend off Peebles' last chance effort in their final at-bat, to take home a 9-8 win Thursday at Peebles High School.
The Lions trailed 2-0 when the third inning began when Andy Countryman and Andrew Seaman scored first inning runs for Peebles.
Down by two two runs Michael Carson hit a one out single. Ian Adams and Bobby Wilson followed with singles to load the bases. Carson scored on a wild pitch with Nathaniel Miller at the plate. Miller reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Adams to score. Tyler Campbell followed with a single to score Wilson, giving the Lions a 3-2 lead.
Fairfield continued to add to their lead when Cody Tolle hit a two-out single to plate Miller and Campbell.
Kyle Carson followed with a single, moving Tolle to second. Tolle took third on a wild pitch and scored on wild throw to third base. Jordan Boles singled in Kyle Carson for the the final run of the third inning.
Peebles scored three runs in the bottom of the third, cutting the Fairfield lead to 7-5. Scoring first for PHS was Blake Justice and Nate Stephens, when both runners were batted in on a single by Bryce Swango.
With two outs, Brandon Leedy scored on an infield error. Leedy reached first on a fielder's choice.
FHS added one run in the fourth with Adams scoring on a wild pitch and an error. He took the bases on a lead-off single.
The Lions scored their final run in the sixth with Dakota Hargrave hitting a two-out double to keep the inning going. Hargrave stole third and scored on a fielding error with the Indians over throwing the ball to third base.
In the bottom of the seventh Leedy, Zach Swayne and Hillger all scored runs for Peebles.
Kyle Carson gained the win for the Lions. He pitched 6 1-3 innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on eight hits and five walks. Carson finished with two strikeouts.
Campbell pitched 2-3 of an inning to close out the game. He allowed one run (one earned) on four walks and no hits.
Leedy was charged with the loss. He pithed five innings, allowing eight runs (five earned) on 12 hits and no walks. Leedy finished with two strikeouts.
Justice pitched two innings of relief. He allowed one hit and two walks, while giving up one run (none earned).
Adams and Hargrave led FHS at the plate at 3-for-4. Michael Carson finished 2-for-3.
For Peebles, Countryman, Seaman and Justice all had two hits.
The Lions finished with 13 hits and each team committed three errors. Peebles had eight hits against FHS.
With the win FHS leaps to 7-7 overall, 5-3 in the SHL.
The Lions will host Eastern Brown Friday at 5 p.m.
