Larrick throws no-hitter; Lady Lions win 9-0

    LEESBURG - After a disappointing extra inning one run loss at Westfall over the weekend, the Fairfield Lady Lions returned to Southern Hills League action in a big way by blanking the Ripley Lady Blue Jays 9-0.
    Sophomore pitching ace Lauren Larrick was the main attraction at Fairfield High School by tossing a no-hitter, with 11 strikeouts. Larrick went seven innings, allowing two walks.
    "Lauren was absolutely stellar on the mound this afternoon," FHS assistant coach Tom Purtell said.     
    Offensively, the Lady Lions were led by Tiffany Woods who had three singles and three RBIs.     
    The Lady Lions (3-0, 3-1) wasted no time scoring runs by putting three on the board in the bottom of the first inning. 
    Heather Huff led off with a bunt single and stole second base on the ensuing pitch.  Huff advanced to third base and also scored on a wild pitch. 
    One out later, Abby Thackston walked. Whitney Hanenkrat laid down a sacrifice bunt and was safe on a throwing error that scored Thackston. Woods singled up the middle to knock in Hanenkrat.
    The Lady Lions scored another unearned run in the bottom of the third inning , taking a four-run lead.
    FHS wasn't done just yet.
    Fairfield added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with three singles off the bats of Larrick, Woods and Sirenity Smith, increasing their lead to 6-0.
    The scoring was completed in the bottom of the sixth inning.     
   With one out, Thackston drew a base on balls. Hanenkrat doubled to the fence in left-center field scoring Thackston. Larrick moved Hanenkrat to third base on ground ball to the pitcher.  Woods had an infield single to score Hanenkrat. Woods advanced to second base and then to third base on a wild pitch and a passed ball.  Jade Shelton then laced a single to left field to score Woods.
    Larrick (3-1) finished the no-hit game by retiring the side in order on only eight pitches in the seventh inning.
    Leading hitters for the Lady Lions: Woods (3-for-4, two runs, three RBIs), Huff (2-for-4, one run), Danielle Butler (1-for- 3), Hanenkrat (1-for-3, double, SAC bunt, three runs, one RBI), Larrick (1-for-3, SAC bunt, one run), Shelton (1-for-4, two RBIs) and Smith (1-for-1).
    Morgan Wright (1-4) suffered the loss for the Lady Blue Jays. Wright went six innings, allowing 10 hits, nine runs (four earned) and four walks. Wright finished with seven strikeouts.   
    Fairfield will travel to West Union on Friday, April 9 to face the West Union Lady Dragons in a Southern Hills League game.  Game time is slated for 5 p.m.
