Lady Lions run-rule Greyhounds

LEESBURG — The Fairfield Lady Lions pounded out 12 hits, four for extra bases, in a 14-1 rout of the Manchester Lady Greyhounds in a Southern Hills League game played Wednesday at Fairfield High School.
The game featured the return of the Fairfield Lady Lions’ high-powered offense as six different Lady Lions had hits.  
Sophomore pitching ace Lauren Larrick scattered four hits and allowed no earned runs, while striking out seven batters en route to her ninth win of the season.
FHS (9-6, 8-3) scored two runs in the top of the first inning.  
Heather Huff was safe on a two-base error to lead off the game. She  advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Danielle Butler laid down the perfect sacrifice bunt to knock in Huff.  Then, with two outs, Whitney Hanenkrat blasted a home run over the right-center field fence for her third home run of the season.
The Lady Lions scored three more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
   Tiffany Woods was safe on an error to lead off the inning, advancing to second base on a wild pitch. Jade Shelton followed with a single down the left field line to move Woods to third base.  Both runners pulled off a double steal as Woods scored.  
Kylie Bates laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Shelton to third base. Huff tripled to the gap in left-centerfield to knock in Shelton. Butler knocked in Huff with a ground ball out.
The Lady Greyhounds plated an unearned run in the top of the third inning to make the score 5-1.  
But that would be as close as they would get, as the Lady Lions added a run in the bottom of the third inning.
Hanenkrat singled to right-centerfield to start the inning. Larrick had sacrifice bunt moving Hanenkrat to third base. Gabby Boone doubled to right-centerfield to score Hanenkrat.
FHS exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Shelton had two hits in the inning, while Abby Thackston, Hanenkrat and Boone also singled.  Larrick hit a double in the inning.
Leading hitters for the Lady Lions were: Hanenkrat (3-for-3, home run, three runs, three RBIs), Shelton (3-for-3, three runs, one RBI), Larrick (2-for-2, double, one run), Boone (2-for-2, double, three RBIs), Huff (1-for-2, triple, three runs, one RBI), and Thackston (1-for-3, one run, two RBIs).     
Larrick (9-6) picked up the win for the Lady Lions 
Larrick pitched five innings, allowing four hits, one run, no earned runs, and no walks, while gaining seven strikeouts.
