Lady Lions gain ninth SHL win

LEESBURG - The Fairfield Lady Lions gained 11 hits, three for extra bases, for a 10-2 victory over the Fayetteville Lady Rockets Thursday at Fairfield High School.  
    Sophomore ace Lauren Larrick dominated in the circle as she allowed two hits and added a season-high 17 strikeouts.  
    Gabby Boone and Kylie Bates led the Lady Lion offense with three hits and two hits, respectively. Lady Lion shortstop Heather Huff collected four stolen bases on the afternoon, including home plate.
     The Lady Lions scored a run in the top of first inning.
    Huff drew a base on balls to lead off the inning. She proceeded to steal second base, third base, and eventually home plate for the run.
    FHS Lady Lions added six more runs in the bottom of the third inning.  
    With one out, Danielle Butler and Abby Thackston had back-to-back singles.  Whitney Hanenkrat was safe on an infield error as Butler and Thackston scored. Larrick had an RBI single to left field, scoring Hanenkrat. Courtney Huff entered the game as a courtesy runner for Larrick, and Boone singled to left field. Tiffany Woods was safe on an infield error, which scored Huff and Boone. Jade Shelton knocked in Woods with a ground out.
    Fayetteville scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth inning.  
    The Lady Lions answered with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Woods doubled with one out. Shelton was called safe on an infield error to score Woods. Bates singled to center field, but Shelton was thrown out at home attempting to score. Bates scored on a double to the left field fence by Heather Huff.
     Fairfield added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning.  
    With one out, Larrick doubled down the left field line. Boone singled to center field. Woods followed with a ground out to the pitcher that knocked in Courtney Huff, running for Larrick.
     The Lady Rockets scored their only earned run in the top of the seventh inning on a walk and a single by Teresa Huber.
     Leading hitters for the Lady Lions:  Boone (3-for-4, one run), Bates (2-for-3, one run), Larrick (2-for-4, double, two runs, two RBIs), Heather Huff (1-for-3, double, one run, one RBI, four stolen bases), Butler (1-for-2, one run), Woods (1-for- 4, double, two runs, one RBI) and Thackston (1-for-4, one run).     
    Larrick (10-6) picked up the win for the Lady Lions and Olivia Mullins  suffered the loss for Fayetteville. Larrick went seven innings, allowing two hits, two runs (one earned run), three walks, and 17 strikeouts.[[In-content Ad]]
