Lady Lions bounce back with SHL win over Rockets

    FAYETTEVILLE - The Fairfield Lady Lions showed their ability to bounce back from a loss. After losing a non-league game against Hillsboro earlier in the week, the Lady Lions defeated the Fayetteville Lady Rockets 11-1 in Southern Hills League action at Fayetteville High School.
    Fairfield used all their tools to gain the victory.  
    Lauren Larrick was stellar on the mound for the Lady Lions, and Fairfield's aggressive base running caused problems for the Fayetteville defense. The FHS offense pounded out 13 hits on the afternoon, as every player in the Fairfield lineup gained a hit.  
    The game also featured the return of senior first baseman Gabby Boone to the batting order. Boone collected a single and a double.
    FHS scored in the top of the first inning, with Heather Huff drawing a walk to lead off the game. Kylie Bates followed with a SAC bunt to advance Huff to second base. With two outs, Larrick drew a walk. Tiffany Woods and Sirenity Smith followed with back-to-back RBI singles to left field.
    The Lady Lions scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. The big hits in the inning were a double by Boone and a home run off the bat of Huff.
    Fairfield added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning.        
    Whitney Hanenkrat led off the inning with a double to left-centerfield. Larrick followed with a single to centerfield. Both runners scored on a sacrifice bunt by Woods.. followed with an error by the Lady Rockets.
    The Lady Rockets scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
    Ryan and Plapp singled in the inning. Ryan scored on a wild pitch.        
    FHS put the game away with five runs in the top of the sixth inning.  
    Courtney Huff, Heather Huff and Kylie Bates had consecutive singles to lead off the inning. Hanenkrat walked, and one out later, Woods doubled to knock in two runs. Smith knocked in a run on a ground ball, followed with Jade Shelton and Boone hitting singles to complete the scoring.
    Larrick struck out the final two batters to end the game.
    Leading hitters for the Lady Lions: Boone (2-for-4, double, one RBI), Heather Huff (2-for-3, home run, three runs, two RBIs), Larrick (2-for -3, two runs), Woods (2-for-3, sacrifice bunt, double, one run, three RBIs), Smith (1-for-4, two RBIs), Bates (1-for-3, sacrifice bunt, one run), Hanenkrat (1-for-3, double, two runs) and Shelton (1-for-2, one run, one RBI).  
    Larrick (6-3) picked up the win for the Lady Lions. The sophomore went six innings, allowing one run (one earned) on three hits and no walks. Larrick struck out eight.
    Mullins suffered the loss for the Lady Rockets.
    The win lifts FHS to 6-3 overall, 5-1 in the SHL.[[In-content Ad]]
