FMS cross-country wins at Piketon

The Fairfield Local Middle School cross-country team traveled to Pike County and participated in the Piketon Invitational at Piketon High School, Saturday, and once again, as they have been doing all season, the FMS boys cross-country team dominated a large field of schools and runners.
Matthew Mangus was victorious over a field of 207 runners with a time of 11:06 for the two-mile course. Following closely behind was teammate Austin Setty with a time of 11:08, a time that is extraordinarily low for a seventh grader.
Noah Richmond placed sixth with a time of 11:33, while Brandtson Duffie, also a seventh grader, finished with a time of 11:34.
Nick Price finished in a time of 12:12 as the fifth man in 17th place, thus giving FMS five runners in the first 17 in a field of 207.
Also competing were Zach Bolender 21st, 12:15; Tucker Ayres 23rd, 12:17; Andrew Davis 36th, 12:41; Zane Adams 67th, 13:22; Zach Ison 129th, 14:36; Griffin Irvin 168th, 15:51; and Riley Friend 204th, 20:15.

The boys' team finished with a very impressive low score of 29 to runner-up Teays Valley with 106 points. FMS also defeated some other large schools such as Athens, Jackson, Zane Trace, Hillsboro, Logan Elm, Warren, Circleville and Proctorville Fairland.
The Fairfield MS girls finished fifth overall behind Athens, Teays Valley, Warren and Hillsboro.
Leading the way for the girls was Grace Shope with a fourth-place finish at a time of 12:46 in a field of 129 runners.
Following Shope was Teigan Thackston, a seventh grader, finishing 12th with a time of 13:16. Also for FMS were: Alexis Swisher 31st, 14:37; Andrea Spears 53rd, 15:09; Maggie Donahue 80th, 16:14; Angel Moon 122nd, 21:09 and Meadow Cunningham, 128th, 24:13.
The teams will be in action Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the annual Highland County Invitational held at Fairfield starting at 4:30 p.m. with an elementary run.
