FMS boys 1st place, girls 4th place at GRC meet

For the second weekend in a row, the Fairfield Middle School boys were victorious and placed four runners in the top six out of a field of 127 runners as the FMS boys and girls cross-country teams participated in the George Rogers Clark Invitational hosted by Springfield Central Catholic High School.
The trio of Matthew Mangus, Austin Setty and Noah Richmond finished first, second and third also for the second week in a row.
Mangus captured the individual title with a time of 11:45 on a rain-slick, muddy course.
He was followed by Setty in second place (11:57) and Noah Richmond in third at 12:18.
Brandtson Duffy was sixth (12:30).
Nick Price placed 23rd for FMS at 13:09, and Tucker Ayres was 28th place (13:20). Rounding out the top seven was Zach Bolender in 31st at 13:29.
The boys dominated the field with a low score of 34 to runner-up Casstown Miami East, 115 points.

The FMS Lions also defeated schools from Eaton, National Trail, Newton Local, Seton Catholic Indiana, Tecumseh, North Union, Bellefontaine, Jonathan Alder, Fairbanks, South Vienna, Miami Trace, Indian Valley, Washington Court House, Springfield, Mechanicsburg, Northridge and host Springfield Central Catholic.
The middle school girls also competed, finishing in fourth with a score of 101 points.
The FMS Lady Lions were led by Grace Shope in sixth place at 13:55.
Teigan Thackston placed 17th (14:41), followed by Kody Haynes in 20th (14:43), Andrea Spears in 40th (16:10.87), Alexis Swisher in 41st (16:10.88), Maggie Donahue in 74th (18:01) and rounding out the top seven was Angel Moon in 100th, at 21:35.
The teams will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 28 at Piketon High School.
